RESTAURANT T&Cs

General Restaurant Terms & Conditions

Pre-Orders

  • The Merchant’s Yard requests that any party of 10 or more diners pre-orders their food (including desserts) a minimum of seven days prior to the booking date. This is to ensure both sufficient stock of all required dishes and so that your party can be served in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Menus and pre-order forms will be sent out to you after your booking has been made; we would ask that you return these by the specified date.

  • A copy of the pre-order form will be available on the night should there be any queries about the order.

  • Where details of pre-orders are taken over the phone, the completed order will be emailed back to you with a request for confirmation that all dishes are correct.

  • Please advise us of any serious allergies when ordering your food. Full allergen information is available on request.

  • Variations to dishes can be provided for guests who have allergies, dietary requirements and/or religious beliefs upon prior agreement; these requirements do need to be pre-ordered to ensure we can accommodate them.

Group Bookings

  • For parties of 10 or more, a booking is considered provisional until a deposit (£10 per person) has been received (the total deposit amount can then be redeemed against the final bill or returned by cheque within seven days of the event date.)

  • Where the number of guests for the booking changes, a minimum of 24 hours notice must be given (please email enquiries@themerchantsyard.com). Changes to numbers within 24 hours of the booking or arrival for the booking with a reduced number of guests will result in a reduction in the deposit amount returned. For example, a booking for ten guests would pay a deposit of £100, should only 8 guests arrive to dine, £80 deposit would be returned.

  • Provisional bookings will be held for 7 days from the date the booking was made and then released if we have not had confirmation by means of a deposit within this time.

  • Any large party booking will require a lead contact who will be responsible for coordinating with The Merchant’s Yard regarding all booking details, including the pre-order.

  • All total bills must be settled in full on the day of the event by cash, credit or debit card (we do not accept cheques or American Express). The lead booker is responsible for ensuring that all food and drink is paid for on the day of the booking. Any remaining items will need to be paid for, or will be deducted from the deposit before its return.

  • A discretionary 10% service charge will be added to the bill for all table bookings of 10 or more guests.

Large Party Bookings (where more than the Private Dining Room (top floor) is required)

  • For large party bookings, a booking is considered provisional until a deposit has been received and a signed copy of the event form has been returned to us.

  • Deposits are taken at 50% of the pre-ordered food cost and can be redeemed against the final bill or returned by cheque within seven days of the event date.

  • Provisional bookings will be held for 7 days from the date the booking was made and then released if we have not had confirmation by means of a deposit within this time.

  • Any large party booking will require a lead contact who will be responsible for coordinating with The Merchant’s Yard regarding all booking details, including menu choices and any pre-order required.

  • There is a room hire charge of £100.00 applicable to the top floor dining room, for 4 hours use.

Amendments & Cancellations

  • Numbers for large party bookings can be amended up to 10 days prior to the event; if alterations are made for any reason after this period which result in a shortfall to the order, then deposit monies will be retained to the value of the order.

  • If a booking is cancelled less than 7 days before the event, the deposit will be retained at the manager’s discretion. In the event of a no show the full deposit will be retained.

  • In the event of any damage caused by diners to restaurant property, we reserve the right to obtain an independent quote to assess the cost of any repairs which will be detracted from the deposit. Should the repair amount exceed the original deposit we have the right to payment in full.

Gift Vouchers

The Merchant’s Yard does offer gift vouchers which can be purchased directly from us (please see 'Vouchers' page). Vouchers have no cash value and cannot be exchanged. All vouchers must be used by date shown (six months from purchase date).
